<stepDesc>2008 Planimetrics Datasets were exported into a separate workspace along with the DC Boundary feature class. The Planimetrics feature classes used were: Buildings Roads Sidewalks Structures Airports Swimming Pools While most of the planimetrics came from the 2005 basemap update, several layers such as pools and airports are from 1999. The final product is essentially all the interested Planimetric surfaces clipped out of the DC Boundary all at once. The Large Overlay Tools, specifically Large Clip, do not work properly within ArcGIS 9.2. The layer still has about 5 separate records within the attribute table. Because of how the Large Clip tool works (partitioning), this is unavoidable. The final output is a merged data layer of several planimetric datasets that include airports, buildings, pools, roads, sidewalks, and stairs. The datasets were processed with ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop and ArcInfo Workstation software. Each dataset was exported from a central database as a coverage. A new attribute field was added to each coverage and the records of impervious polygons were populated with a common value (i.e. Dissolve1 = 1) to prep the data for use with the DISSOLVE command in ArcInfo Workstation. The DISSOLVE command was run on each coverage using the new attribute field as the dissolve field. Note: Previous attempts using ArcToolbox's Dissolve tool resulted in memory errors. The UNION command was iterated against each dissolved coverage to produce a final output coverage. The "union" output coverage was divided up by ward using the SPLIT command to avoid memory errors in ArcToolbox. . A new attribute field was added to each coverage and the records of impervious polygons were populated with a common value. The ArcToolbox Dissolve tool was run on each ward coverage and output as a multipart polygon shapefile. The dissolved ward shapefiles were merged into one polygon shapefile and imported into a database using a definition query to only import records defined as impervious. The final output is an eight record multipart polygon. Due to memory errors and final dissolve command could not be completed. Large Overlay Tools DO NOT work properly with ArcGIS 9.2 because of a glitch. The analyst should research in the future to see if this has been resolved.</stepDesc>
